Guarnaschelli was born to Maria Guarnaschelli, and John Guarnaschelli. Barnard College awarded her a master's degree in art history in 1991. She worked in an American Place restaurant for one calendar year on an hourly wage of minimum from 1991 to the year 1991. Guarnaschelli began her journey into the world of food through helping her mother test many recipes and then making edits to books. Guarnaschelli interned under Larry Forgione (whose son is Iron Chef Marc Forgione), and later at various restaurants in France, New York and Los Angeles, including Guy Savoy's La Butte Chaillot. Before taking over Butter as its executive chef, Guarnaschelli worked for Daniel Boulud at his eponymous restaurant. The restaurant was closed in the summer of 2005. she worked as the executive chef of The Darby. She chairs the museum's Culinary Council. Guarnaschelli released her first cookbook in 2013. "Old-School Comfort Food: The Way I learned to Cook" includes autobiographical information and some of her favorite dishes of her professional career that she made for the house. Jamie Jamie Jamie
